Ravello LAB 2010

The fifth edition of Ravello LAB - International Forum takes place in Ravello from 21 to 23 October 2010 addressing the issue of "CULTURE-LED LOCAL DEVELOPMENT: CREATIVITY, GROWTH, SOCIAL INCLUSION. Urban Strategies for Territorial Competitiveness".
The concept of culture as the most suitable tool for strengthening the identity of peoples of Europe has been ratified by the European Agenda for culture in a globalizing world issued by the European Commission in 2007. This document point out the extraordinary potentialities of culture as a boost for local development, identity and social cohesion.

The recent economical and financial crisis makes it urgent to find new paradigms of growth centred on culture and creativity around which we could build new strategies of sustainable development..

In this contest, the International Forum Ravello LAB can usefully contribute to a reorientation of the European public policies for local development focused on culture and cultural productions (creative industries, performing arts, laboratories) in the light of a better European integration. Since its first edition, the reference to Europe has always been a constant in the preparation of Ravello LAB, in consideration of the increasing role of culture and creative industries.

The three day meeting of Ravello LAB 2010 are then dedicated to the debate on urban policies and territorial development, in the frame of indications from European institutions. Moreover, thanks to Ravello geographic position and to its cultural tradition, the International Forum has always paid particular attention to Euro-Mediterranean topics.
The fifth edition of Ravello LAB will also provide the chance to analyse the issues of the European Year for combating poverty and social exclusion 2010.
Furthermore one of the critical issues to be dealt with during Ravello LAB 2010 will be the quality in training activities for public and private operators committed in the new vision of culture as a driver for territorial development.

Methodology
The general consensus on Ravello LAB’s usefulness comes from a clear strategic vision of the laboratories’ aims and from the participation of local decision makers, experts and operators committed to provide valid contributions and proposals based on concrete experiences.
The Forum will be divided into three different working sessions aimed at debating three main issues:

1. Culture-led local development in urban areas
2. Creative industries for territorial competitiveness
3. Models and skills for a new approach to culture and development

The activities of each edition of the International Forum are outlined by a Scientific Committee chaired by Prof. Pier Luigi Sacco and agreed by an eminent international Steering Committee.
Each edition ends with a synthesis of the activities (the Ravello LAB Agenda) that, properly disseminated, will be part of the political debate at different institutional levels.

The Community of Ravello LAB, mainly composed of participants to the previous editions, is a real heritage set up and activated with the purpose of identifying common paths, going from exchanging experiences and good practices to the sharing of innovative European projects.
